About Crayon Skateboards

Matthew ‘Dykie’ Ryan

Owner, founder

Right, it’s been almost 4 years now since we started this thing, so far so good! We’ve got a proper good team including 3 Pros now, some cool web edits, boards that I am very proud of and hopefully a video coming soon. Here’s a couple of people that have helped out the most so far…

Nat Jones

Designer

I have known Nat for a long time now, my earliest and fondest memories of him are skating the blocks in Cardiff many years ago doing crazy combo tricks that really shocked me. I don’t know why he ain’t in my early welsh vids but I wish he was.
These days he can found working incredibly hard on Independent & Santa Cruz lines and his other recent work off the top of my head can be found in Kill City, Sleep when you’re Dead and Globe including Pritchard’s shoe which a few years back was Globe’s best selling shoe.
My working relationship with Nat started with the underexposed videos and he has been here with me at Crayon since the start, designing the Logo and the very first board and has always been looking over my shoulder with some friendly advice, so thanks mate! You’ll be seeing some good lines from Nat with Crayon in the very near future.

Nick Richards

Original webmaster, Videographer and Editor

I’ve only known Nick since the start of Crayon, I was looking for someone to put the original site together and can’t remember how Nick was there but he got on it and I’m very glad he did. He has also been by my side the whole way working on some cool tour edits and now progressed into very professional done HD edits and generally just helped me out when I’ve been stuck; good work Nick!

Philip Morgan - illustrator, deck designer

A good friend for many years from skating, Phill entered our deck competition a couple of years back (being new to the art world). Although he did not win, his entry had lots of attention and we later decided to have the deck produced. It was so successful we then put it into Crayon’s first artist series of decks, ‘The Wilderness Series’ and later put his famous boxman character onto a Crayon deck. Phill has been a great help all round with Crayon producing posters and postcard artwork also.

Tom Hobson - deck designer

Tom is an amazing skater and amazing artist and is an original member of CSC which made the perfect choice of person for Crayon’s first artist series (the Lumberjack board still being one of my favourites so far and always get tempted to re-issue it).

Pete Fowler - deck designer

It was an absolute honour to get Pete Fowler involved in Crayon, even a dream come true if I’m honest. Pete is a few years older than me and I kinda remember him skating in Cardiff when I first got in with the Cardiff scene as a young lad. Being one of the older boys, he left for greater things before I really got to know him. About 18 months back i used my Cardiff connections and asked him to do some boards for us, he replyed saying yes and I so was overwhelmed I quicky got to know Pete properly and it was a real pleasure working with him and his very professional manner. Pete is most famous for doing the artwork for Super Furry Animals which is why a colab with them was done.
